The full moon in August is known as the Sturgeon Moon. This year’s Sturgeon Moon will peak late in the evening of August 27th, into the early morning of August 28th, and will coincide with a partial lunar eclipse.
Join us for an early evening paddle in downtown Milwaukee, leading up to the rising of the Sturgeon Moon. Along the way, you will learn about the lake sturgeon that were once plentiful in our area; the important social and spiritual connections to Indigenous communities; and the progress of efforts to restore sturgeon populations after decades of overfishing.
Meet us at Milwaukee Kayak Company for a brief orientation before we hit the water for an evening of storytelling. This guided experience is a great opportunity to learn about culture, history, and ecology while enjoying a beautiful evening on the Milwaukee River.
All gear is included with your kayak rental. See you there!
This is a fundraiser for Milwaukee Riverkeeper. All registration fees go to Milwaukee Riverkeeper -thanks for all you do!
